A neighbor asked me the olther and\u00a0when I was going to put up the Christmas lights.<\/p>\n
I don’t know if I will.<\/p>\n
I remember when\u00a0I started doing that 50 years ago and the whole block was lit up with people trying to outdo each other?
\nGod that was a sight.<\/p>\n
Last year only three people bothered.
\nIt makes me wonder what the hell are we celebrating.<\/p>\n
I was sitting in my office at home\u00a0last night thinking about where the time went and how much things have changed.<\/p>\n
When I was at the mall last week the decorations were going up and it was long before Thanksgiving.<\/p>\n
And nobody calls it Christmas any more.
\nAll over the mall were signs saying “Happy Holidays”.<\/p>\n
Now it’s Kwanzaa and Festis\u00a0and who knows what the hell else.
\nAnd don’t hang a cross on public land or some hippy, tree hugging college freshman in need of a boyfriend and a cold beer will start parading around with a sign.<\/p>\n
I wonder what changed in our country’s soul?<\/p>\n
The TV news doesn’t cover Christmas pageants because no one calls them that any more.<\/p>\n
It’s all about how much money the stores are making and if they are going better or worse than the year before.<\/p>\n
People are out buying because that have to give presents, not because they want to.<\/p>\n
