Over the years I have rarely shared stuff others have sent me.<\/p>\n

Usually it’s because I’m too busy presenting my own point of view, as petty as it can be or the stuff doesn’t match the literary excellence of what is normally found here.<\/p>\n

On this eve of my annual pilgrimage to the land of debauchery I have been gifted with something worthy of your attention.<\/p>\n

A friend sent this and I offer it for your reading pleasure.<\/p>\n

This is an e-mail sent to Clarence Page of the Chicago Tribune after an article he published concerning a name\u00a0change for the Washington Redskins.<\/p>\n

Dear Mr. Page…<\/p>\n

\"Wash<\/a>I always love your articles and I generally agree with them. I would\u00a0suggest, as in an email I received, they change the name to the\u00a0“Foreskins” to better represent their community, paying tribute to the dick heads in Congress.<\/p>\n

I agree with our Native American population. I am highly insulted by\u00a0the racially charged name of the Washington Redskins. One might argue\u00a0that to name a professional football team after Native Americans would\u00a0exalt them as fine warriors, but nay, nay. We must be careful not to\u00a0offend, and in the spirit of political correctness and courtesy, we\u00a0must move forward.<\/p>\n

Let’s ditch the Kansas City Chiefs, the Atlanta Braves and the\u00a0Cleveland Indians. If your shorts are in a wad because of the\u00a0reference the name Redskins makes to skin color, then we need to get\u00a0rid of the Cleveland Browns.<\/p>\n

The Carolina Panthers obviously were named to keep the memory of\u00a0militant Blacks from the 60’s alive. Gone. It’s offensive to us white\u00a0folk.<\/p>\n

The New York Yankees offend the Southern population. Do you see a team\u00a0named for the Confederacy? No! There is no room for any reference to\u00a0that tragic war that cost this country so many young men’s lives.<\/p>\n

\"PC-1-sized\"<\/a>I am also offended by the blatant references to the Catholic religion
\namong our sports team names. Totally inappropriate to have the New\u00a0Orleans Saints, the Los Angeles Angels or the San Diego Padres.<\/p>\n

Then there are the team names that glorify criminals who raped and
\npillaged. We are talking about the horrible Oakland Raiders, the
\nMinnesota Vikings, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Pittsburgh\u00a0Pirates!<\/p>\n

Now, let us address those teams that clearly send the wrong message to\u00a0our children. The San Diego Chargers promote irresponsible fighting or\u00a0even spending habits.
\nWrong message to our children.<\/p>\n

The New York Giants and the San Francisco Giants promote obesity, a\u00a0growing childhood epidemic.
\nWrong message to our children.<\/p>\n

The Cincinnati Reds promote downers\/barbiturates.
\nWrong message to our children.<\/p>\n

The Milwaukee Brewers. Well that goes without saying.
\nWrong message to\u00a0our children.<\/p>\n

So, there you go. We need to support any legislation that comes out to\u00a0rectify this travesty, because the government will likely become\u00a0involved with this issue, as they should. Just the kind of thing the\u00a0do-nothing Congress loves.<\/p>\n

As a diehard Oregon State fan, my wife and I, with all of this in\u00a0mind, suggest it might also make some sense to change the name of the\u00a0Oregon State women’s athletic teams to something other than “the\u00a0Beavers.”<\/p>\n

On that note – I have spoken at length with Madam Lady Luck.<\/p>\n

She has still not decided whether to accompany me to Las Vegas or not.<\/p>\n

Women can be fickle.<\/p>\n
