Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend – Common Sense, who has been with us for many years.<\/p>\nStolen but I don’t remember when or from where.<\/p>\n
Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend – Common Sense, who has been with us for many years.<\/p>\n
No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.<\/p>\n
He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:
\n– Knowing when to come out of the rain,
\n– Why the early bird gets the worm,
\n– Life isn’t always fair,
\n– Maybe it was my fault.<\/p>\n
Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don’t spend more than you earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).<\/p>\n
His health began to deteriorate when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year old charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student only worsened his condition.<\/p>\n
Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining\u00a0their children.<\/p>\n
He declined further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when their child became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.<\/p>\n
Common Sense lost the will to survive as the churches became businesses, and criminals received better treatment than their victims.<\/p>\n
Common Sense took a beating when you couldn’t defend yourself from a burglar in your house, but he could sue you for assault.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0end was near after a woman didn’t stop to think that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap and was promptly awarded a large settlement.<\/p>\n
He passed on a hot night in Dallas when people turned against those who protected them<\/p>\n
Common Sense was preceded by death by…
\n– his parents, Truth and Trust,
\n– his wife, Discretion,
\n– his daughter, Responsibility,
\n– and his son, Reason.<\/p>\n
He is survived by five step-brothers…
\n– I know my rights,
\n– I want it now,
\n– Authority sucks,
\n– Someone else is to blame,
\n– I’m a victim.<\/p>\n
His funeral was not well attended so few know he was gone.
\nMakes you grumpy, doesn’t it?<\/p>\n
